James Leroy “Jim” Callahan, 85, of Urbandale, was called home to his Lord and Savior, January 21, 2025.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Visitation will be held one hour prior, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for a future designation.

James was born in Sheldon, Iowa on April 14, 1939, to Laurence and Helen (Showers) Callahan. He spent his youth in Iowa and graduated from Winterset High School in 1958. He then served in the US Army. He spent much of his adult life in Bloomington, MN, and lived the last two years in Urbandale.

He was a manager and district manager for Kmart Corporation for many years before his retirement in 2005.

Jim and his wife, Delores (King) were married for 55 years.

Jim is survived by his brothers, Dwayne (Robin) Callahan and Roger (Cathy) Callahan; his sisters, Diann (Calvin) Farwell, Paulette Hochstetler, and Nancy (John) Wiedman; his sister-in-law, Anne Callahan; and many nephews, nieces; and great nephews and great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Helen Callahan; his wife, Delores; brothers, Donald Callahan and Gordon Callahan; sisters-in-law, Alberta Callahan, Darlene Callahan, and Darlene LaFratte; and brothers-in-law, Tony LaFratte and Dennis Hochstetler.

Jim will be remembered for his enormous love of family, and his steadfast work ethic. He will be greatly missed.
