Marilyn Nelson, 74, of Creston, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at the Crest Haven Care Center in Creston. Funeral Services will be 11 AM, Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Lorimor Church of God, Lorimor, Iowa. Pastor Ben Turner and Chaplain Terry Roberts will officiate. Burial will be in the Lorimor Cemetery. Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements. Open Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00 AM, with family receiving friends 10:30 – 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Madison County Association for Special People. Memories and condolences may be left at pearsonfuneralhomes.com.
Marilyn Kay Nelson was born in Osceola, Iowa on January 3, 1950, the daughter of Boyd Handley and Maurine (McKinney) Nelson. Marilyn was born with numerous handicaps and lived at home til the age of 7. She then lived at the Glenwood State Hospital for Handicap Children and received her schooling there, sending handwritten letters home to her parents. At the age of 18, Marilyn moved back to the Union/Madison County area. Marilyn worked at Innovative Industries, in both Creston and Winterset, for many years. Marilyn always enjoyed her time at Innovative. She also worked for the Care Center North in Winterset in the laundry and dietary departments. For a short time, Marilyn worked for Genesis in Indianola, where she helped by doing the laundry.
Marilyn attended church wherever she was living and always enjoyed singing in church. She was a pet lover, especially dogs and spent many hours looking at family pictures which was one of her favorite pastimes. Marilyn also participated in the Special Olympics when she was able.
EveryStep Hospice was a big part of Marilyn’s life since Oct. of 2023. She enjoyed the many workers who took care of her, including reading books to her and sharing pictures of their puppies.
Preceding Marilyn in death were her parents; her uncle, Paul McKinney; 2 aunts: LaDene Brown and Letha Noehren; and 2 nieces: Shannon Billheimer and Vicki Decker.
Marilyn is survived by her 4 siblings: Sandi (husband Wayne) Tucker of Lorimor, Iowa; Darrell Nelson of Creston, Iowa; Doris (husband Bobby) Jackson of Lorimor, Iowa; and Norma (David) Decker of Adair, Iowa. Marilyn is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and extended family members. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
