Hazel “Irene” Fuller passed away Monday, December 13th at Bethany Life in Story City. She was 100 years old.
Irene lived in Chariton, Iowa most of her life and spent the last few years at Bethany Manor.
Irene was born in Chariton, Iowa. She graduated from Chariton High School and later married Donald Fuller of Chariton. Don enlisted in the Army and they moved to Galveston, Texas for about a year and a half while he was stationed there. She worked in the Secretarial Pool at the Post while her husband was in the Army Band. They made many friends there, some of which remained lifelong relationships. Irene enjoyed them and many family and friends from Chariton, the Methodist Church, and her many volunteer, part-time, and full-time endeavours including running the local Dairy Queen for many years.
After husband Don passed away, she was able to travel. One of her favorite trips was to the Holy Land with a Methodist church group. She was also able to stay active in the Chariton United Methodist Church and other local organizations. In addition, she met and befriended Flora Bell Hixson and Hope Guildroy, who we referred to as the Three Musketeers. They traveled every week to different destinations, rode bikes, and hiked in Red Haw and City Lake areas.
Irene is survived by daughter Becky Chandler (Mark), son Fred Fuller (Julie), grandchildren Sean Chandler, Jay Chandler, Michael Chandler, Douglas Fuller, Joseph Fuller, and Amy Mathis. She is survived by several great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Don, daughter Julie, and her parents and siblings.Memorials to: Methodist Church Chariton, Chariton Public Library, Bethany Life, Story City, Ia.
