Bertha Genevieve Pugh was born May 16, 1913, at Kossuth, Iowa and died May 14, 1915, at Wapello, Iowa, aged 1 year, 11 months and 28 days. She was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cleveland Pugh. There are two other children, Lois Irene, aged 4 years and Clarence Vernon, aged 6 years, that remain to comfort the sorrowing parents. Little Genevieve was never well from birth. A cancerous, dropsical trouble developed that baffled the best of physicians. Last fall she was kept for several weeks in the hospital at Iowa City for treatment. Four times she was under the surgeon's knife. After these operations she found temporary relief and would become quite playful. But each time the disease renewed its hold until the little body was again racked with pain and death finally claimed its little victim.

Last August the family moved to the Eversmeyer farm near Wapello and in September moved to the Joiner Davison farm east of town, where the funeral services were held on Saturday at 2 p. m. conducted by Rev. A. W. McBlain, pastor of the First M. E. church. The body was taken to Kossuth for burial.
