Page 1Horace Diehl, a former well known and highly respected citizen of Columbus Junction, died at his home in Iowa City Thursday, February 18. He has been suffering from cancer for several years. He was born September 12, 1841, in Lehigh county, Pennsylvania, and came with his parents, Jonas and Caroline Diehl, to Columbus Junction in 1855. He was married in 1869 to Miss Mary Owen and to this union were born two children, Mrs. Addie Shoop, who died in 1903 and R. J. Diehl, who resides in Columbus Junction. He is survived by three grandchildren, Roy Shoop of Winslow, Ariz., and Misses Alma and Alta Diehl.
Mr. and Mrs. Diehl resided for about twelve years in Missouri, after which they returned to Columbus Junction a few years ago and about two years ago went to Iowa city. Mr. Diehl joined the Reformed church when sixteen years of age and was always an honest and upright citizen. The funeral services were held from the Reformed church at 2 o'clock Sunday, February 20, 1915, conducted by Rev. C. E. Ewing. Interment at Columbus City cemetery.
