Mrs. Dora Bowers was born in Bavaria, Germany, March 8, 1831 and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. R. Hall, in Oakville, December 1, 1912, aged 81 years, 6 months and 23 days. She was united in marriage with Feight Bowers, in Germany. In year 1857 Mr. Bowers came to America and the year following Mrs. Bowers followed her husband, where he had located in what is now West Burlington, Iowa. In 1859 they moved to the Henry Haight farm, in Louisa county. Three years later they purchased a farm of eighty acres in Eliot township. Her husband died February 13, 1874, but Mrs. Bowers did not leave the farm and kept her family together there.

About fourteen years ago she came to Oakville, built her a house and continued to live there except during her illness when she was cared for by her daughters, Mrs. Margaret Yotter and Mrs. Mary Hall. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bowers, as follows: John, deceased; Mrs. Margaret Yotter and Mrs. Mary Ann Hall, of Oakville; Mrs. Philomena Bain, of Grand Junction, Colorado; Henry Bowers, of Oakville and Emma Bowers, who died in infancy. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Grandma Bowers was converted a Baptist and united with the Protestant Methodist church in 1892. She transferred her membership to the M. E. church, December 13, 1910. The Rev. R. S. Tague, of Osceola, Iowa, conducted the funeral services at the M. E. church, December 5, assisted by the Rev. A. S. Covert and Rev. Harvey Butler. Interment took place in the Creighton cemetery.
