John Sprinkle was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, February the 10th, 1825 and died at his home near Elrick Junction December 15, 1907, aged 82 years, 10 months and 5 days. He was married to Mary E. Johnson April 12, 1849. To them were born 14 children, of whom 7 sons, Erasmus, Melvin, Frank, Edwin, Charles, Millard and Calvin and 2 daughters, Mrs. Emma Huff and Mrs. Alice Dotson, together with his aged companion, still survive him. All the children with the exception of 2 sons and one daughter, reside in the distant state of Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Sprinkle came to Iowa in the fall of 1854. Father Sprinkle was converted to God in year 1870 and united with the Methodist Protestant church at Fairview. His funeral sermon was preached at Fairview by a former pastor, R. S. Tague, of Attica, Iowa, after which he was tenderly laid to rest in the cemetery to await the resurrection of the just.
