HURRY-UP WEDDING IN JUSTICE COURT
JAMES V. WIER AND RUTH YOUNG MARRY IN HASTE.
Ceremony Performed One Minute Before Train Leaves- Some Rapid Arrangements.
James V. Wier, of Letts, Iowa, and Miss Ruth Young, of Grandview, were married in haste in Muscatine on Saturday afternoon, the nuptial knot being tied but one minute before the time, on which their train was scheduled to leave the city. In order that the loving pair might be united and still get home in time to celebrate Christmas, Judge J. H. Carl was forced to run faster than he has done in years and he lowered all short time records on reciting the marriage service as prescribed by the statutes. Mr. Wier and his bride-to-be expected to leave on the 6 o'clock train over the M. N. and S. for Grandview, and their efforts to catch that train and do it as man and wife were indeed praise-worthy. The couple was delayed in securing the license and it was not until five minutes of six that the would-be groom succeeded in locating the magistrate. He told the "squire" of his troubles and the judge cheered him up by saying he would be at his office in three minutes and Wier answered that he would be there in one minute. As soon as the judge arrived the ceremony was performed and the couple made a dash for the train just swinging onto the car as the train pulled out. The marriage certificate was filled out later and mailed to the couple today.
