Rev. J. B. Hill, of Agency, former pastor of the Hedrick M. E. church, died Saturday morning shortly after midnight, at his home, aged 87 years, four months and nine days. Rev. Hill was ill but a short time, having led prayer meeting Thursday evening. The funeral was held at the M. E. church at Agency Monday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. 0. G. Orcutt, assisted by a number of other ministers from the Iowa conference. Interment was in the Agency cemetery.
Rev. Hill was born July 22, 1822, in Pocahontas county, West Virginia, and came to the Iowa conference in 1857. He settled on a small fruit farm in Agency township, 35 years ago, and followed this pursuit in connection with his duties as a minister. He had been engaged in the ministry for 52 years.
Mr. Hill was married in 1843 to Elizabeth McCoy, who died in 1845. In 1848 he was married to Mary J. Cottle, who survives him. To them were born eight children, as follows: Mrs. Sarah Pugh, of Cedar Rapids, John Hill, of Des Moines, Mrs. O. Menge, of Agency, Mrs. Minnie Burt, of Omaha, Mrs. Stella Todd, of Washington, Kansas, Frank Hill, of Bonaparte, E. C. Hill, of Seattle, and Cora M. Hill, of Agency. Several of his children were present to attend the funeral.
