Michael Pauly was born in Perl Germany. He emigrated to the United States 1872-73 along with his parents and two sisters, Mary Pauly Heyer and Anna Pauly and settled in Harper, Iowa. His brother Jacob had emigrated the previous year. He was the son of John and Anna Lahr Pauly. He married Elizabeth Woltering (daughter of John Henry and Catherine Haar Woltering) on Sept. 17, 1878 at the Catholic Church in Baden, Lafayette Twp. Keokuk County, Iowa. He lived in Harper, Iowa all his life. His occupation was blacksmith.
