Cyrenius Dewey - Amanda Shields/Byerly question

Have a bit of a puzzle here. Both Cyrenius Dewey (born 1820) and Phoebe Amanda Shields (born 1842) have been married previously. Cy's first wife Emily Hannah Carpenter died 1877 in Cedar County. By 1880 he is in the Olin area and remarried to Amanda in 1881. Her second husband was Jacob Byerly who died 1880.

Now, Cy and Emily had a son named William Allison Dewey who was living in Alameda Co., California by 1900 and shows Cy with him, "widowed". Cy died in 1907 in Oakland, CA but Amanda died in Jones Co. 1926 and is buried under her Byerly married name.

Was the 1881 marriage annulled? Did they divorced in a very short time as I don't find her dying in California and brought back and she was not with Cy in 1900. And Cy and her had moved out of Jones Co. by 1885. Why is she buried under her second marriage surname rather than Dewey?

Any leads what happened to this marriage?
