There is only one Francis McClure that shows up in Iowa census through 1920 and that was 1900, age 52 (10 years too young) and female.
If Frank was actually born 1848 in PA, then he would be about 72 years old during the 1920 census. I did a filter search using only the last name, male, age bracket 71-80, and born PA. There were no Frank, Franklin, Francis, or F. McClure listed close by. The closest living to Iowa were:
Charles W. McClure, 73 in Kansas City, KS
James McClure, 72 in St. Louis, MO
John J. McClure, 77 in Hudson, IL
David McClure, 72 in Perrysville, OH
Leander L. McClure, 72 in Canton, OHThere were two of the correct names, one I mentioned before:
Frank S. McClure, 71 in Franklin, PA
Francis F. McClure, 74 in Sumas/Whiterock. WAI tried the same variables with 1900 census and the only names close was once again, the Frank in Pennsylvania and a..
Frances McClure, 55 in Rock Creek, MN
Either his first name was something else, the last name butchered badly (but shouldn't year after year), he died between 1880-1900 rather than after 1927, or came to Iowa right before his death. I would look into the James of St. Louis above as the best bet to start with.
There is also a F.A. McClure that shows up age 64 in Egeland, ND for the 1910 census. Another possible lead?
If you knew his wife's name may help zero in better? I see he was still single at age 32 during the 1880 census in the listing you mentioned.
