In Response To: Does anyone know about Curtis Dillavou? (Dan Stivers)

I can't answer the history part which may be someting in the Jones County history books. I can answer some facts.

Curtis C. Dillavou was married c.1899 in Illinois to Martia E. Stoll(born Nov 1880 IL). He was born May 13, 1876 in Illinois and died November 18, 1943 in Los Angeles Co., California. His grave is located in Olin Cemetery - Sect 5, Lot 44. His mother's maiden name was Long. They had a daughter named Nellie Blanche Dillavou Stivers also in the Olin cemetery and a photo of her headstone is linked at:

and further info about marriages on this link:

There is a Jacob R. Dillavou/Dillavon (1838-1861) of DeWitt Co., IL married 1861 in IL to a Catherine C. Day who is probably related. Also had a daughter named Nellie Blanche Dillavou (1878-1925) who married in 1910 a William Shepherd Kuhl (1877-1960). Some of these names are also familiar with Jones county.

1900 census Curtis is at Elkhorn, San Joaquin Co., CA listed as a minister.
1910 census Curtis is at New London, Henry Co., IA
1920 census Curtis is at Olin, Jones Co., IA listed as a minister at the U.B. Church.

What I also find interesting is that there is a Charles A. Dillavou married 9/5/1898 in Champaign Co., IL to Minnie Strohl. This is probably them as the marriage year is about right and the last names are so alike. Could have been a transcription error on his name? Or it could be a case of brothers who married sisters?

That is about the best I can do.

Eric
