The 1879 Jones Co History says that Asa C Bowen was an early settler of Monticello. The first post office was established in Monticello in 1841.

He is not in the 1850 Jones Co. census.
He is in the 1852 Jones Co., Richland Twp census.

There is an Asa C Bowen, age 43 b NY in 1850 in Branch Co., MI with a wife Lana age 44 b NY. He has a son Willard J Bowen age 9 b MI

Perhaps you can find more information in Branch Co., MI
