Dorothy J. Thompson, 91, of Wyoming, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, Dec.23, 2010, at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa. In keeping with Dorothy's wished, her body was cremated, and no services are planned at this time. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, Cedar Rapids, is serving the family.
Dorothy is survived by five children, Shirley Kellogg, Lost Nation, Gary (Jan) Thompson, Wichita Falls, Texas, Donna (Norman) Wilslef, Wyoming, Tommy (Phyllis) Thompson, Fairfield, and Becky Mullin, Rockledge, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Null, Cascade, and Doris Herren, Anamosa; brother, Alvin (Ruth) Orr, Onslow; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Orr, Lilburn, Ga., and Elizabeth Bright, Marion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; parents; three brothers, Dean, Jack and Harb Orr; a sister, Aurilla Bunting; and son-in-law, Jim Kellogg.
Dorothy was born April 4, 1919, in Onslow, the daughter of Alva and Averill (Stickley) Orr. She graduated from Onslow High School in 1936 and from Lenox College in 1938. Dorothy taught country school until her marriage to Homer G. Thompson on Feb. 10, 1938. She lived in Barnes City until moving to Wyoming in 1942. In 1969, they moved to Cedar Rapids where Dorothy worked at the Town House Restaurant and later at Armstrong's Department Store for 21 years until it closed in November 1990. Following her husband's death in 1997, Dorothy moved back to Wyoming in 2001.
Dorothy loved to sew, do needlework, garden and read, but above all else, she loved to be with her family.
