Funeral services for Sylvester Benishek, 88, were held at the Hayden Funeral Home, Oxford Junction, Dec. 21 with the Rev. Ramon Booth of Cedar Rapids officiating. Burial was in Mayflower cemetery, Oxford Junction. Pallbearers were Harold Rehmke, Richard Wink, Melvin Latare, Ferdinand Burda, Otto Koranda and Ingeman Simonsen. Music was by Mrs. Otto Koranda and Lesa Simonsen. Mrs. Lewis Hayden was organist.
Mr. Benishek died at the Mechanicsville Care center Dec. 19.
The son of John and Marie Vochaska Benishek, he was born in Oxford township, near Oxford Junction Dec. 24, 1894. He was married to Erna Paterson Sept. 21, 1944. He was a farmer in partnership with his brother, Dave, from 1915 to 1963 when he and Mrs. Benishek moved to Tipton. In February 1964 she entered the Mechanicsville Care center.
He was a 50 year member of Zealous Lodge #435, Oxford Junction and the Cedar Rapids Consistory, being a 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived by his wife and a number of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters.
