The Eureka, Anamosa, Tuesday, July 14, 1857
Mr. Jacob Byerly, six miles east of here, on last Wednesday, was cleaning out his well; the wall fell in, injuring him seriously. The greatest wonder is that he wasn’t killed instantly, as he was completely packed in by the fallen stone, supposed to be some seven or eight loads around and over him, and his wife had to go about half a mile for assistance to get him out. We learn since that there are some hopes for recovery.
