SCHOOL HOUSE BURNED-The school house in sub-district 1, Greenfield Township, was destroyed by fire last Tuesday night. The cause of the fire is unknown. The supposition is that it was purely accidental. There has been some trouble in the district, however, that possibly may induce some to suspect incendiarism. It appears that a Rev. Mr. Henry, of Linn County, was hired by the secretary of the school board to take charge of the school. The president and director, on the other hand, employed Mr. J. A. Holmes, of Anamosa, for the same work. Both teachers appeared upon the ground for the purpose of taking charge pf the school. It was a South Carolina double-barreled legislature over again. Finally a compromise was effected, Mr. Henry was paid $40 and withdrew from the contested district, leaving Holmes literally the master of the situation.

Now the school house, after a two weeks’ session, is burned down. We hardly think this can be attributed to any malice. The building was erected some four years ago and was insured in the House of Chicago-for how much we could not learn.
