We celebrate the life of Genevieve A. Baird, a cherished soul who graced this world with her presence on August 29, 1932, in Ottumwa, IA, and who peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of her family on February 27, 2025. Genevieve, known fondly by her given name, lived a life marked by compassion, service, and an unwavering devotion to her family and community. Genevieve married John Baird in Eldon, IA at the Baptist Church on Nov 23, 1949. John survives and lives at Grand Living At Bridgewater in Coralville.
Born to Roy & Nancy (Ancell) Hull on Aug 29, 1932, and adopted at age 5 to Charles and Vivian Pilcher of Floris. In her youth, Genevieve's nurturing spirit led her to pursue a career in healthcare, where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She dedicated her professional life to caring for others at The Fairfield Hospital, where her warm presence and expert care left a lasting impact on countless lives. Alongside her work as an LPN, Genevieve partnered with her beloved husband, John Baird, in managing the everyday challenges and joys of farming and overseeing a hog operation. Together, they sowed the seeds of both literal and figurative growth, cultivating a life filled with love and hard work.
A Renaissance woman of sorts, Genevieve had an array of interests that kept her life vibrant and full. She was an artist at heart, bringing beauty into the world through her paintings. Her hands coaxed flowers and plants from the earth as a Master Gardner, and she was often found with her fingers in the soil or a paintbrush in hand. Her baked goods were legendary, and many will remember her for the joy she found in camping, fishing, and rock collecting. A lover of beauty and knowledge, Genevieve indulged her love for the written word through bible studies, book-keeping, and travel.
Her life was a testament to her loving, faith-filled, and generous nature. Genevieve's deep faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and her relationships with others. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she was always the first to offer help or comfort to those in need. She was a rock to many, a steadying force in a changing world, and her legacy is one of unwavering love and tender care.
Genevieve A. Baird leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and generosity that will continue to blossom in the lives of those she touched. She is survived by her husband, John Baird, daughter Louann Davis (Jon-deceased), son David (Patricia) Baird, sister Esther Kennis, as well as several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two children Johnny and Lois, and nine siblings.
Genevieve's journey on this earth may have come to a close, but the seeds of love she planted in every life she touched will continue to grow and flourish for generations to come. We take comfort in knowing that she now rests in eternal peace, her faith and love enduring beyond her years with us.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at North Liberty Baptist Church, 1215 Jordan St # A-5, North Liberty, IA 52317, with a service to begin at 11:00 AM.
