Doris Ann Ruth, 84, of Hills, formerly of North Liberty, IA, passed away Friday, September 20, 2024, at Atrium Village. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, September 26, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City with Father John Lamansky Celebrating. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM, Wednesday, September 25, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with a rosary at 3:30 PM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Croix Hospice.

Doris was born on February 13, 1940, at her family farm in Holbrook, IA, the daughter of Thomas and Elma (Humphrey) Cooney. She was a graduate of St. Patrick Catholic High School. Doris was united in marriage to Eugene C. Ruth on August 9, 1958, at St. Wenceslaus Church, they just celebrated 66 years. She was a postal clerk and made her way to postmaster retiring after 25 years in 1993. Doris was a member of several postal organizations, involved in PTA, and bluebird leader for her daughters. She worked for Sears and P&G before becoming a United States Postal worker in North Liberty. Doris loved to square dance, garden, sew, puzzles, and travel.

Doris is survived by her husband, Gene; four children, Ed (Denise) Ruth of Mt. Vernon, Jean (Jack) Morsch of Iowa City, Peggy (Dennis) Jenn of Riverside, and Lisa (Scott) McDowell of Carlisle, PA; eight grandchildren, Hunter (Savannah Rybsky) Ruth, Garrett (Diamond) Ruth, Carlin (Austin Yung) Morsch, Heather (John) Buzynski, Courtney Jenn, Jonathan (Casey) McDowell, Natalie (Sam) Dell and Nathan McDowell, three great grandchildren, JT, Brooklyn, and Carter, one sister, Wilma Mullinnix of Lone Tree; and many extended family.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leonard (Dorothy) Cooney; and brother-in-law, Charles Mullinnix.
