Constance “Connie” Corcoran, 91, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 8th at the University Hospital downtown.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 18th, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 17th, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, where the Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Connie was born January 5, 1933, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of C.W. (Clem) and Kathleen (O’Leary) Crahan. She was raised in Oelwein, graduated from Sacred Heart High School, and then attended Clarke College in Dubuque. While attending Clarke college she worked at KDTH radio. On August 11, 1956, Connie married James “Jim” Corcoran at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein.
Connie and Jim resided in Waterloo and Cedar Rapids before moving to Iowa City In 1963. They were members of St. Thomas More Church and later St. Mary’s Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Connie was also a past member of the Johnson County Election Board.
Connie was a devoted wife and mother and a great friend to many. She loved spending time with her family. Connie worked part-time for American Greetings after the kids had graduated from high school.
Connie was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed all sports, especially Hawkeye football and Men’s and Women’s basketball. She also became a fan of the Indiana Fever with Caitlin Clark. Jim and Connie went to home Hawkeye football and basketball games for over 30 years. She enjoyed antiquing and visiting quaint little shops along with the local craft shows. She loved getting out and enjoying the sunshine whether that was by the pool or out on their deck or trips to Florida and Marco Island.
Connie is survived by her husband, Jim of North Liberty and their children, Kim Corcoran of North Liberty, Kathleen Corcoran (Burl) Matthes of Solon, Tim “TJ” (Laurie) Corcoran of Des Moines, and Michael Corcoran of North Liberty; her sister, Bette Tompkins of Scottsdale, AZ; and extended family.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Amy Jo; her brother, Mike Crahan and sister Mary Carney; and in-laws, John Carney, Mary Crahan, Larry Tompkins and nephew Stephen Tompkins.
