At Iowa City, last Friday evening, Peter Lutz, who was selling tickets for a Catholic fair, and George Mayweather, colored, who was selling tickets to a colored people’s festival, came into collision, and Lutz struck the colored man. The latter immediately went across the street to his shop, got a razor, returned, made a desperate dash at Lutz’s throat, inflicting a terrible gash along the jawbone down the neck, penetrating the lungs between his ribs. The doctor pronounced Lutz’s wounds fatal. Mayweather was placed in jail to await the result of Lutz’s injuries.
