My Great Grandfather and his brother James came tom settle in Iowa in 1859. They worked on the railroad and helped build the railroad into Fairfield. My Great Grandfather and his wife Mary Burns who were both born in Ireland had one daughter Sarah who was born in New York in 1857. She married Thomas Whalen in Ottumwa in 1882. Another daughter Bridgett was born in Lockridge in 1859 and died in Lockridge in 1860; cause of death was Whooping Cough. My grandfather James Aloysious was born in Lockridge March 23, 1870. The other children of John Lanigan were born in Ottumwa, Iowa; Timothy Edward 1888 died 1934 at Ottumwa,and Julia Ann born 1863 died 1930, Maggie born 1857 married John Goviel Jones. Timothy and Julia never married.
