Life’s Fitful Fever Over
Mrs. Wm. Rowles died at the home of her sister at Enid, O. T., Saturday, February 18th, after a lingering illness of many months. In fact she had not enjoyed good health for several years. Mrs. Rowles left Colfax eleven weeks ago for the South in hopes of regaining her health. She reached Enid, O. T., where she stopped to rest, and her condition was such that she could not resume the journey. The remains arrived in this city Monday evening and the funeral services were held at the M. E. church at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, a former pastor, Rev. Griffith, of Des Moines, preaching the funeral sermon. A large concourse of people assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. Many beautiful floral gifts also spoke of the love of friends and acquaintances for her.
Effie M. Cain was born in Moravia, Iowa, December 21, 1857. She united with the M. E. church at the age of nine years and has since remained a devoted member of that denomination. She moved to Colfax with her parents and brothers in 1876 where she married Wm. M. Rowles. To them were born four children. One child, Walter, who has been her constant companion, and her husband survive her. She also leaves a mother and sister and two brothers.
Mrs. Rowles was a woman of very estimable qualities and was highly esteemed by a very large circle of acquaintances and warm personal friends. She was an intelligent, warm-hearted, kind and lovable Christian woman and it is sad indeed that one so worthy should be called in the prime of life from a sphere of usefulness and from the companionship of loving friends, but “we all do fade as a leaf.”
