Clinton Priest Observes 40th Year as Churchman
Clinton, Ia. – The Rev. Edward F. Jackson of St. Irenaeus church is observing the 40th anniversary of his ordination. A supper will be held in his honor at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the church lawn. It is expected that hundreds of members of the congregation and friends from other cities will attend. The supper will be followed by a program and benediction. Local clergy are assisting in the observance.
Father Jackson, native of Pittsburgh, Pa., was ordained June 21, 1910, in Baltimore cathedral by the late Cardinal Gibbons. He first served as assistant pastor in Davenport cathedral. He then went to the church in Colfax, Ia., where in addition to other duties he was camp chaplain during the First World War. Before coming to the Clinton Church in 1933 he was pastor of St. Marys, Oskaloosa, for six years.
Father Jackson has completed an extensive improvement program in the local church, which was finished in time for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the north side church in 1948.
