Ira E. Draper was born in Marion County, Indiana, January 4, 1834; he died in Des Moines, Iowa, Jan. 18, 1907. He removed to Jasper County, Iowa, in the fifties, and engaged in business at Vandalia. From 1860 to 1871 he was postmaster of that place, and for a time published The Vandalia Visitor. He later engaged in the banking business in Prairie City, and became a large landowner. He served as a member of the House of Representatives in the 14th General Assembly.
