Ronald Carl Rathjen, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. A public graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Genoa Bluffs Cemetery in Marengo, Iowa. A celebration of Ron’s life will take place from 2 - 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Roushar Home, 303 Moose Drive NW, Cedar Rapids. In tribute to Ron’s love for the Iowa Hawkeyes, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Hawkeye gear to the celebration. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids assisted the family.
Ron was born on August 10, 1945, in Iowa, to Carl and Helen (Fitzgerald) Rathjen. He graduated from Millersburg High School. Ron married Cindy Louise Buehler on December 9, 1972, in Cedar Rapids. He built his career as an office supply salesman with Klinger Office Supplies which later became Fidlar Business Systems.
A devoted member of Eden United Church of Christ, Ron actively participated in the church choir and a variety of church activities. He was a passionate Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Above all, Ron found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating cherished memories. In his later years, he formed many meaningful friendships at Silver Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his daughter, Ann (Jeff) Roushar; grandson, Jackson; granddaughters, Makenzie Buck and Madison (Lupe) Deason; great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Aleena, McKain, Desi, Braylin, Alani, and Aveah; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cindy Rathjen; daughter, Jennifer Rathjen; great-grandchild, Anai; nephew, David Rathjen; brothers, Gary and Glen; and sister, Darlene.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of Silver Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care.
