Betty Lou Mumby was born April 23, 1956, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd Keith and Charleen Smith Mumby. She graduated from HLV High School in 1974. Betty worked as a waitress at Dicky’s by Malcolm for several years, where she met Tom Harp. The couple got married June 24, 1988, on the family farm southwest of Ladora. They moved to Hennepin, Illinois for a short time before coming back to Ladora to raise their family on the family farm.
Betty was always very supportive of her husband Tom being a truck driver and taking care of the family farm, always helping out and being there for her children’s activities in any way she could. Betty was a 4-H leader for the Lincoln Loyal Leaders for several years. Betty and Lois Kovar purchased the Ladora Stora in 2014, working and enjoying the people who often came in the store. Betty especially loved everything horses, she farmed and made a strong bond with them. They raised draft and quarter horses, showing them and often spent time trail riding.
Betty was a member of the Ladora Saddle Club and the Mid-Iowa Driving Club. Her and Tom’s world revolved around their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they cherished all the time spent with them.
