Carol Ann Vogt, age 85, of Marengo, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 11, 2025, surrounded by loved ones and cherished memories.

Visitation: 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2025, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo, with Rev. Daniel Krueger officiating.

Burial: Marengo Cemetery.

Carol Ann was the heart and soul of gatherings, known for her warm laugh, lively stories, and love of people. Born February 19, 1939, in Middle Amana, Iowa, to William Henry and Dorothy Marie Zuber, she grew up in a tight-knit community that shaped her spirited nature. A graduate of Amana High School’s class of 1957─with just 12 classmates─Carol Ann stayed connected to her roots and took pride in her Amana heritage.

On August 10, 1957, she married John Melvin Vogt at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. Together they took over the family farm and built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.

Carol Ann enjoyed cooking hearty lunches for farmhands over the years, cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones, and anything to do with the Amana Colonies. Her love of music was a constant thread throughout her life. She played the piano for weddings, the Colony Marketplace, and at Bill Zuber’s Dugout, attracting guests to gather and sing.

Most of her working years were spent at Bill Zuber’s Restaurant in Homestead, where she started at age 12. She brought a vibrant personality to the environment, working alongside family and friends. The restaurant wasn’t just a job for Carol Ann; it was a place where her passion for people, serving, and storytelling shone. She could spin a tale like no other, often leaving her listeners in stiches with her humor and charm. Following Zuber’s, she worked for her brother at the Little Amana Winery.

Above all, Carol Ann’s greatest joy was her family. She loved having family in her home, and she cherished the moments spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Carol Ann is survived by three children, Kevin (Marna) Vogt of Ladora, Kathy Brecht of Amana, and Connie (Matt) Gougler of Portland, Oregon; six grandchildren, Cody (Tiffany) Vogt, Hunter (Raelynn) Brecht, Kayla Vogt (Justin Lentner), Haley (Shane) Farr, Adam Vogt, and Joseph Vogt; and eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Kathy (Robert) Schwarting of Middle Amana, Robert (Mary) Zuber of Amana, and her sister-in-law, Mary D. Miller of Marengo.

She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, John, her son Christopher, and her parents.

Carol Ann will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
