Bob and Betty Roemig of Homestead, passed away this year, just a few months apart.
Robert Charles Roemig was born May 3, 1934, in Homestead, Iowa, the son of Carl and Helen Schadlich Roemig. He received his education in the Amana schools, graduating from Amana High School in 1953. He and Betty Wolter were married April 7, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Homestead. Bob ran all the General Stores in Amana, the Homestead House, and the Colony Country Store. Bob spent his free time gardening, playing golf, and fishing. Bob and Betty loved to travel, and they took a vacation almost every year with their children. They enjoyed the buying trips for the stores, had season tickets to Iowa football games, and cherished time spent with their family and many friends. They were well known in the Amana community. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Homestead and the Homestead Welfare Club. Bob died June 27, 2024, at Windmill Manor in Coralville.
Betty Jane Wolter was born June 15, 1936, in rural Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of William and Rose Wichman Wolter. She received her education at St. John’s Parochial School, Homestead, and graduated from Marengo High School in 1954. Betty and Robert settled in Homestead, following their marriage. Betty was a general manager of the Little Amana General Store, and a waitress and hostess at Zuber’s Restaurant. She enjoyed playing Bridge, Solitaire, and Sudoko. Betty loved to cook, and entertaining her family and friends was a favorite pastime. She also was an avid CUBS fan. The obstacles Betty encountered in her lifetime, molded a very strong, tenacious person. She took great pride in her appearance and was a warm and gracious being. She also was a member of St. John’s Lutheran in Homestead and the Homestead Welfare Club. Betty died November 5, 2024, at Colonial Manor of Amana.
The couple are survived by a daughter Vicky Roemig Hogan (Rob Warkoczewski) of Milwaukee, WI, and a son John Roemig of Amana; beloved granddaughters, Allison (Brock) Renbarger of Bellevue, and Victoria (Pat) Watts of Des Moines; and beloved great grandchildren, Crawford and Calloway Renbarger.
