Richard Lee Kummer, 81, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024 in San Marcos, CA. Rich was born in South Amana, IA in 1943, to George & Florence (Webert) Kummer.

Rich is survived by his wife Susan Stone Kummer, son Steve & wife Tricia Kummer and a daughter Kristine Kummer. One brother Don and wife Sylvia Kummer, and his sister Barbara & husband Steve Large. Rich had three grandchildren, Trisha, Michael & Jasminn. Rich & his wife were blessed with 10 great-grandchildren.

Rich graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1961. He loved playing football & basketball. In the summers he was hired help for the Amana Colony Farms. He still kept in touch with many of his classmates and enjoyed attending class reunions over the years.

He was a meat cutter for 34 years, starting out as a “carry out” at Me Too in Marengo, Iowa; Me Too in Cedar Rapids, Kings Super in Denver, Colorado, and Hy-Vee in Iowa City/Coralville, IA.

He farmed the family Century Farm, South Amana, IA for 35 years, growing corn, beans & hogs.

Rich enjoyed many friendships throughout his life. He loved his travel to many countries, but Maui was his paradise. He had a great love of golf with his buddies; however the ‘Hole-In-One’ was always going to be the next time. He was a life-long avid IOWA HAWKEYE fan since childhood.

Rich & Sus retired to San Marcos, CA in 2009.
