Sonja Kae Naughton, 78, of Iowa City passed away on October 10, 2024 due to complications from many years of COPD.

Visitation will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove, Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 9:00 – 11:00 AM mass begins promptly after. The burial will be at Saint Michaels Catholic Cemetery in Holbrook followed by a luncheon at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Animal Center Foundation or Dementia Society of America.

Sonja was born on August 23, 1946 in Sigourney, Iowa to Raymond and Mary (Crawford) Cox. She grew up in Parnell and graduated from high school in Williamsburg. She married her high school sweetheart, Paul “Joe” Naughton on May 15, 1965 in Iowa City. The couple settled in Iowa City, where they raised their four children, Jeff, Tonya, Tara and Scott. Sonja managed their business, Naughton Drywall Company in Iowa City before her health no longer allowed her to do so.

She loved dancing in her younger years and was an avid reader all her life. Sonja also enjoyed her word search puzzles and watching a good western. Above all, she was devoted to her family and her Catholic faith. As a loving wife, mother and grandmother, her whole life revolved around her family.

She is survived by her husband Joe Naughton, and their four children Jeff Naughton, Tonya Naughton, Tara (Dan) Davis, and Scott (Rochelle) Naughton. Also surviving are her grandchildren Jackie Naughton, Jeffrey Naughton, Jesse Davis, Jake Davis, Jersey Naughton, Brittany Davis and Nico Naughton, and three siblings Terry Cox, Kandee Murphy, and Bob Cox.

Sonja was preceded in death by her parents.
