Charles D. Denniston was born March 16, 1932, in Newton, Iowa, the son of Homer W. and Helen C. (McCaffree) Denniston. He graduated with a BA from Monmouth College, and a Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Iowa. On October 12, 1957, Chuck was united in marriage to Marilyn Huedepohl in Newton, Iowa, and they were blessed with three children.
Chuck was the Hospital Administrator at several major Midwest hospitals, prior to returning to Newton to become President of Denniston & Partridge Company. Chuck retired in 2000, and he and Marilyn soon thereafter moved to Bella Vista, AR for 14 years of retirement living.
In addition to golf groups and bowling leagues, they were very active at United Lutheran Church, including singing in the church choir. Upon their return to Iowa, Chuck and Marilyn became members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City, where both again enjoyed singing in the choir. Chuck was a board member of the Skiff Hospital Board of Trustees in Newton, and an active Kiwanis member in Newton, Burlington, Iowa, and Lawrence, Kansas.
Chuck passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at his home in Williamsburg, at the age of 92 years.
He is survived by his children Jeff (Elise) Denniston of Carlisle, Jon (Michelle) Denniston of Ottumwa, and Kristin (Shane) Morris of Manchester; five grandchildren: Emma (Levi) Ratliff of Albia, Jacob (Anna) Denniston of Carlisle, Lexie Denniston of New York City, NY, Claire (Dylan) De Jong of Newton, Lydia Denniston of Des Moines; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; and two brothers, Donn and Bill.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the service. A private family burial will occur the following day at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City or Highland Ridge Presbyterian Home in Williamsburg. Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg is caring for Chuck and his family.
