Richard Ora Stumpff, 95, went to his eternal home on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at St. Luke’s Transitional Care Center in Cedar Rapids.

A Rosary will be recited at 4:00 PM, Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton. Visitation will follow from 4:30 until 7:00 PM, also at the Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, September, 13, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vinton, with Rev. Jim Brokman as Celebrant. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Norway, at 1:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established.

Richard was born October 26, 1928, in Cedar Rapids to Grover and Helen (Hetz) Stumpff. The family lived in Amana where the children attended school and helped with chores.

He met the “prettiest” girl at a local dance and secured a date for the next weekend. After a courtship, Richard and Margaret (Frimml) were united in marriage on May 5, 1953, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Norway. Richard worked as a lab technician at Amana Refrigeration for 44 years. He and Margaret raised their three daughters in Norway, and later retired in Vinton.

He dedicated his life to his faith, his family, and helping others. He enjoyed fishing, water skiing, playing cards and family vacations in Minnesota.

He is survived by three daughters, Kathy (Dave) Wessling of Vinton, Karen (Leo) Niffenegger of Marion, Amy (Scott) Good of St. Charles, MO; 7 grandchildren, Tiffany (Wes) Carpenter, Rachelle (Stu) Haker, Erin (Tony) Barnett, Ashley (Jeremy) Niffenegger, Alex (Brian) Bird, Emily (Juan) Pohlen, Pete Pohlen; 8 great grandchildren, Madison Mann, Dylan Carpenter, Chloe Carpenter, Lexi Niffenegger, Clara Haker, Duncan Barnett, Davie Barnett, and Leo Fisher; and his sister Druecilla Slager of Anamosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Margaret in 2007; 3 brothers, Roy, Arthur, and Donald Stumpff; and 3 sisters, Marilyn Stumpff, Jean Wiebold, and Joan Miller.
