Lloyd John Trimpe, formerly of South Amana, was born on April 1, 1934, in Williamsburg, Iowa, to John and Johanna (Steinke) Trimpe. He was later raised by Uncle John and Aunt Martha Baack. Lloyd was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church and graduated from Marengo High School. On November 5, 1955, he married Mary Ann Hahn at St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead.

Lloyd spent most of his life farming and being the neighborhood repair man in the Iowa Township area. He also worked as a salesman for BG ag products, at Fetzer Amoco for over 30 years, and as an L.I.S. bus driver. He loved traveling to Minneapolis Moline and Oliver tractor shows, especially the one in Homestead on Father’s Day weekend. Lloyd enjoyed driving his golf cart. Known for his friendly nature, he never met a stranger and loved a good conversation.

He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, served on the L.I.S. school board, and was involved with the Jaycees and the Iowa County Civil Defense/CB radio club, where he was known by his handle “Iowa Echo.”

Lloyd passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Memorial Compass Hospital in Marengo at the age of 90. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann; five children, Matthew (Maureen) Trimpe of Williamsburg, Myron (Martha) Trimpe of South Amana, Kathy (Robin) Hobbs of Marengo, Max (Mary) Trimpe of Oxford, and Merl (Nancy) Trimpe of Newhall; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Sherman of Middle Amana. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and a brother.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead, with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, September 2, 2024, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for the Lutheran Interparish School.
