The man who dis-brained his wife’s paramour, in her bedroom, with an ax, at Homestead, last Sunday, was Charles Reed, until recently of Des Moines. The Des Moines Register says: “Mr. Reed was employed on railroad work, by Mr. Martin Flynn, the well-known contractor of this county. He had been absent from Des Moines but a short time. In this city, where he has lived for many years, he was well liked, and has many warm friends who will regret exceedingly to learn of the troubles. The wife, whose infidelity the terrible tragedy must be attributed to, is the daughter of a well-known farmer of this county. The names of her paramour have not been learned here. The method resorted to by Mr. Reed to avenue his wounded honor was desperate and terrible, yet in light of public sentiment he will stand acquitted. No American jury can be found to punish a man for the slaying of his wife’s seducer.
