Paul Rehse Laid To Rest Saturday
Funeral services for Paul Rehse of Battle Creek, Iowa who died Wednesday, November 26, 1958, in a hospital in Cherokee, Iowa, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 29, in St. John’s Lutheran Church, with the pastor, the Rev. W. H. Janke, officiating. Paul Berihard John Rehse was born August 24, 1888, in Grand Township, Ida County, Iowa, the child of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rehse. He was made a child of God through the sacrament of Holy Baptism which was administered in Trinity Lutheran Church, Grant Township, by the Rev. M. Herrmann. He was confirmed in the same faith; also in the same church, by the Rev. Von Der Au. On March 9, 1910, he was united in marriage to Hulda Ernst; the Rev. Amstein performing the ceremony. The marriage was blessed with the birth of three children. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rehse lived in Grant Township until 1913 when they moved to a farm two miles west of Battle Creek, and lived there until they moved into the town of Battle Creek in 1948. Mr. Rehse joined St. John’s Lutheran church soon after he moved to the community and remained a faithful member of the same unto his death. He served the congregation as an elder for seventeen years, and as an usher for several more, an indication of the high esteem in which he was held by his fellow Christians. He leaves to mourn his departure; his widow, Mrs. Hulda Rehse; one son, Lester Rehse, of Battle Creek; two daughters, Mrs. LaVerne Nielsen, of Hackensack, Minn. And Mrs. Florence Albers, of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Dora Jors of Schleswig; a brother, Richard of Ida Grove. His parents and a brother preceded him in death.
