Last Rites For Mrs. Fred Paulsen
Funeral services for Mrs. Fred L. Paulsen, who passes away Monday night, November 17, 1958, in the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, following a month of illness, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 1958, in the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, with the pastor, the Rev. John C. Thorns, officiating. The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Henry Preston and Mrs. Robert Zabel. The hymn, “Rock of Ages,” was sung by Mrs. Sterling Persell, accompanied by Mrs. Alvin Iversen, at the organ. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Christensen Funeral Home. Helen Ann Crawford Paulsen, daughter of William and Ollie Crawford, was born on April 7, 1905, near Ida Grove, Iowa. There she grew into womanhood. She taught school several years in the rural schools of Ida County, Iowa. On February 28, 1927, she was married to Fred L. Paulsen. They immediately started farming on the farm which they still occupied. To this union two daughters were born; Mrs. Shirley G. Matthews of Lincoln, Neb., and Mrs. Phyllis E. Nielsen of Omaha, Nebraska. She has been a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church and an active member of the Ladies Aid Society, Philathea Class and Ladies Country Club, of which she was a charter member. After a month of illness, she passed away on Monday evening, November 17, 1958, at the age of 53 years, 8 months and 10 days. She leaves to mourn her departure, her bereaved husband, Fred L. Paulsen; two daughters; Mrs. Shirley Matthews and Mrs. Phyllis Nielson; a grandson, Kem Matthews; two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Gladys Kirkholm of Ida Grove, Mrs. Hazel Schumann, Clyde Crawford and William Crawford, all of Battle Creek.
