First Baby Here – New Years Day
A boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Daryl East of Schleswig on New Year’s Day 1973 to cinch the annual First Baby of the Year Contest sponsored by the Pioneer Record. The seven pound ten ounce arrival was welcomed in the Horn Memorial Hospital at 10:37 p.m. Mr. East is a high school social studies teacher in Schleswig and also serves as the girls’ basketball coach. A son, Brandon, who is 2 ½ years old, is also included in the East family. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. William East of Stanhope, Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. George Milbrodt of Hinton, Iowa.
