Mrs. Mary Bush died Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Spies, with whom she has made her home for a number of years. Mrs. Bush was 86 years of age and had been crippled for about 26 years. For the last 8 years she had been blind also. She was the widow of a Civil War veteran, W. P. Bush. Mrs. Bush had lived in Gilmore City for many years and during that time had made a host of friends, being known to many of them as “Grandma Bush.
Obituary
Mary Betty Scott was born in Maryland, August 9, 1850, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Blanche, in Gilmore City, Iowa, March 1st, 1937, at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 10 days. At an early age she moved with her parents to Philadelphia, Pa., later to Pittsburg, then in 1870 to Calhoun County, Iowa. On Sept. 26, 1871, she was married to W. P. Bush, locating on a farm south of Florida. In 1886 they moved to a farm 4 miles west of Gilmore City. In 1890 they moved to Gilmore City where she spent the remainder of her life. On September 26, 1921, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Mr. Bush passed away June 12, 1923. Six children were born to this union: Joseph J. of Casper, Wyoming; J. Oliver of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Maude Delle and Mrs. Blanche Spies of Gilmore City; and Jacob E. and Wm. Pratt, deceased. Besides the children, she leaves 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She united with the church at the age of 18 years. She was always active in church work, especially Sunday School, Aid Society and Missionary. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 4th, with Rev. Hall officiating. Interment was in the Gilmore City cemetery.
