Patricia Melver, age 81, of Cresco, IA passed away on December 18, 2024 at Accura Health Care of Cresco where she had been a resident for the last several years.
Patricia Rose Melver was born on March 20, 1943 to Ulrich and Rose (Weinfurter) Balk near Jackson Junction. She was part of a large family and grew up on a farm in the Lourdes area.
In December 1968, she and Oscar “Butch” Melver eloped. Together they raised their son, Mark in the Bonair area. She enjoyed riding horses with her family and loved having a dog on the farm.
Patricia enjoyed spending time in her garden, sewing, baking cookies, rosettes, pecan tassies and krumkake and making lefse for special holidays. She loved listening to old country music on the record player and watching old movies. During her time at the care center she looked forward to playing bingo and making craft projects, listening to special music and all the fellowship time with her family, friends and visitors.
Survivors include her son Mark (Julie) Melver of Elma, IA, three grandchildren: Rayna (Josh) Dunn of Alta Vista, IA, Kitana (Tim) Hanson of New Hampton, IA and Hunter (Ashley Thuman) Freebury of Lyle, MN, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers Francis Balk of Osage, IA and Ron Balk of Cresco, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 53 years, Oscar “Butch” Melver (2022) and siblings: Julius, James, Walter, Arthur, Leona, Rueben, Rita, Alma, Robert, Donald and Floyd.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, January 10, 2024 at Howard Center Township Cemetery in rural Lime Springs, IA. A celebration of life will follow from 4:00-7:00pm at the Featherlite Center in Cresco. Schmelzer Funeral Homes is assisting with arrangements.
