Julius Mark Hayek, age 71, of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on November 9, 2024 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, IA, with Father Daniel Knipper officiating. The day will begin with a recitation of the rosary at 9 a.m., followed by a visitation from 9:30-11:00 a.m., prior to the service.
Born on August 13, 1953, Julius was a lifelong resident of Cresco and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1972. He was self-employed, working with the Amish and hauling livestock, a career that matched his strong, independent nature.
A devout member of Notre Dame Parish, Julius's faith was an important part of his life. His commitment to his community was evident in his participation in various local activities. He was known for his love of going to auctions, scrapping metal, and enjoying river boat rides. Julius also cherished his trips to Branson, Missouri, dining out, Camping, visiting casinos, playing cards, gardening, canning, and was an active member of a local coin club.
Julius was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Dolores Hayek, and siblings Janet Hayek, John Hayek, Adolph Jr. Hayek, Jay Hayek, and Jim Hayek.
He is survived by his special friend of 23 years, Arlis Knutson-Rushford, MN; and his siblings Joe Hayek-Dunnellon, FL, Jerome Hayek-FT Atkinson, IA, Jean (Star) Hayek-Naalehu, HI, Joyce (Gene) Kapler-Cresco, IA, JoAnn (Jerry) Andera-Manly, IA, Jaci (Mike) Tipton-Marion, IA, Jane (Cal) Steffen-Ossian, IA, and Dr. Julie Hayek-Alabama, along with many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
