Tommie J. Hove, 77, of Cresco, IA, died on Monday, October 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by the love of his family.
Tommie Jo Hove was born on September 24, 1947, in Cresco, IA, son of Marion and Lillian (Frey) Hove. He met the love of his life at Matter’s Ballroom. He and Margaret “Maggie” Costigan were wed on April 24, 1976 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, IA.
Tommie was a member of the Cresco Wildlife Club, NRA, H.O.G- Harley Owners Group and Howard County Soil & Water Conservation Boosters. As a veteran, he was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 135. He was an avid motorcyclist and loved to travel. He and Maggie became snowbirds and had been traveling to Arizona for the last 10 winters. Tommie had a strong work ethic. He worked hard and played hard. He stayed very active and that showed through his work as an arborist. Tommie planted 300+ trees every single year for the last 25 years. When people asked why he did it, his response was, “I didn’t do it for me. I did it for you.” He truly was the salt of the earth. Tommie was a great dad and husband. He never lived a dull moment with his foot always on the gas. After 47 years of marriage, there was never a day where Maggie was bored.
Tommie is survived by his wife Maggie Hove of Cresco, children John (Hillary) Hove of Decorah and Grace (Aaron) Hove of Cresco, granddaughter Avah Hove, step-grandson Thais and brother Terrie Hove of Cresco.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Lillian Hove, brother Larrie Hove and two brothers-in-law Dale Hormann and Bob Martin.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, at Notre Dame Catholic Parish in Cresco with Fr. Jacob Rouse officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco and will continue one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
