Joseph F. Shutt.
Joseph F. Shutt is a prominent Howard county farmer. He was born on a farm near Fort Wayne, Allen county, Indiana, Jan. 1, 1858. His parents, Daniel and Barbareta Shutt, raised a family of six children, three boys and three girls, giving each ample opportunity for education.
In 1882 Joseph moved to Canton Minn., where he spent one winter, going from there to Duluth, Minn., where he lived three years. He then spent the winter of 1885 in Seattle, Wash., returning in 1880 to Minnesota.
In 1887 he was united in marriage to Anna E. Wilson. They came to their present farm in March, 1890, where they have since resided. They have two daughters, Lela, aged fourteen years, and Alice three years old.
Mr. Shutt is one of the popular democrats of the county and was a candidate for the state legislature in 1901 on the democrat ticket, the republican candidate being Mr. Barker. The fight was a close one as Mr. Shutt cut the republican majority down from 500 to 100 and many think he would have won the election if he had counted success possible and had done the usual amount of campaign work.
Mr. Shutt has an ideal farm and is working it successfully, doing general farming.—Chester Herald.

Transcriber's Note: Find-a-Grave shows he died Dec. 2, 1933 and is buried in Spring Valley, MN.
