ROBERT BAXTER.
Robert Baxter came with his parents to Henry county in 1857, from the state of Pennsylvania. He served his country for four years and seven months in the First Iowa cavalry. At the close of the war he was elected sheriff of Henry county, and afterwards was elected county auditor, serving one term in each office. At the expiration of his term as auditor, he engaged in the merchandising business at Knoxville, Iowa, in the year 1876. He returned to Mt. Pleasant in the spring of 1891 and put in a new stock of first class footwear in the room formerly occupied by Penn & Holwick on the north side square. His many friends, and in fact the general public, have found his store a reliable place to trade. With an increased business, his stock has increased until he now has the leading shoe store in town.
