Mrs. Maud Lalone
Maud Holliday Lalone, daughter of John and Ida Holliday, was born in 1884 at Mlltonvale, Kansas. When still a, young child, she moved with her parents to Dow City and grew to mature womanhood in that vicinity.
In 1900 she was married to William Lalone. Three children were born to this union, Ernest, Harvey and Louise. Most of these years, the family lived on farms in the vicinity of Dunlap and Mrs. Lalone took an active part in the work of the Methodist church and the Rebecca lodge.
In 1952, Mr. and Mrs. Lalone left Dunlap to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Cecil Young, at Milford. Mr. Lalone passed away that same year. In 1956 Mrs. Lalone suffered a series of strokes from which never recovered. During the last four years of her life, she was bedfast and graciously and lovingly cared for at the home of Mrs. E. Gacke and by her daughter, Mrs. Young. In spite of her almost complete paralysis during the closing years of her life, Mrs. Lalone never complained. She had always been a loving mother and a friend to everyone.
Death came at Milford on January 4, 1960, at the age of 75 years 11 months, and 9 days. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Ernest in 1946. She is survived by her son, Harvey of Rose Creek, Minnesota, and her daughter, Mrs. Cecil Young, Milford; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a sister Agnes. Cedar Falls; two brothers William of California and Burrell of Harlan; and other relatives and friends
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Dunlap on January 6, 1960, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Arthur A. Hamann officiating. Mrs. James Cotton, the organist, accompanied the soloists, Mrs. Arthur A Hamann and Mrs. Edgar Rannells, Jr. Pallbearers were Wade Manchester, Ralph Koski, Clarence Talcott, Ira. Rees, Ralph Davis, and Howard Culver. Barrett Funeral Home at Dunlap was in charge.
