Life Long Resident Of Klemme Vicinity Passed Away Sunday

Funeral Services For Henry Barz Being Held Today (Wednesday); Klemme

Klemme - Henry Barz, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Barz, was born on July 12, 1883, at Klemme. He was baptized at the Ell town Reformed church by the Rev. Hy Treick. During his childhood days he attended the public school of Klemme. He received his religious training at the Reformed church, where he was confirmed by Rev. John Gatermann. The memory verse recorded on his confirmation certificate is Ps. 37, 4. "Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."

During the days of his youth he worked on his father's farm. On March 2, 1910 he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Born. The young couple settled on a farm adjoining the home place, about one half mile east of Klemme. This has been their home ever since.

Five children, four sons and one daughter were born, of whom one son, Elmer, died in 1916 at the age of four.

Mr. Barz was one of the prominent farmers of the community, respected and thought well of by all who knew him. He loved his home and was especially interested in the religious training of his children, He was a faithful member of the church, attended services and Sunday school regularly with his family and took an active interest in church activities. As elder he represented the congregation at various classes and synod meetings.

He was elected a member of the school board at Klemme after he had been appointed to this office, to fill the vacancy caused by his brother Albert's death, in 1938. He also served as director of the Farmers elevator and the Hancock County Oil company.

Sunday he attended church as usual, and with Mrs. Barz, visited friends in the afternoon and evening. Death came suddenly without warning when he retired at about 10:30 o'clock Sunday evening, Oct. 5. He attained the age of 58 years 2 months and 23 days.

The following survive: His wife, four children, Raymond, Avis and Allen at home and Everett of Klemme, seven brothers and sisters: Mrs. H. C. Lau, Tracy, Minn., William, Garner, Herman, Fred and Mrs. Lena Schroeder of Klemme, Mrs. Otto Baack, Tracy, Minn., and Emil, of Waterloo, and one granddaughter, Carol Kay Barz.

Funeral services were held at the Klemme Reformed church Wednesday afternoon with Rev. C. Grosshuesch in charge. Burial at the Klemme cemetery. Pallbearers: G Terhufen, J. Swalve, F. Becker, C. J. Wille, J. Kaduce and L. Hartbeck. A quartet composed of Ed Thieman, Mrs. A. Dulmes, Mrs. E. Gerardi and C. Grosshuesch, jr., sang "God Will Take Care of You." and Abide with Me."
