Henry Landis Schnebly was born near Peoria, Illinois, Nov 9th, 1846, and died at Regent, N. D. at 9:30 a.m., February 29th, 1920, aged 73 years, 3 months and 20 days. He grew to manhood on his father’s farm near Peoria and while there married Frances F. Fox in 1869. They made their home in or near Peoria until 1895 when they came to Stilson, Iowa, where they lived seven years. From here they moved to Lamar, Mo., and from there moved to North Dakota in 1906 and lived in Adams County for some time and in 1916 moved to Regent where they have made their home until the present time.
Besides his wife, five children survive their father. One daughter, Maud P., died in 1897 and was buried in Britt. One son, Henry L. Jr., died in infancy and was buried in Illinois. The children living are: Charles F. of Ithica, N. Y.; Edna D. Nall of Stilson, Iowa; Frank L. of Mott, N. D.; Eliza Mary Woodruff, of Regent, N. D.; Jesse F. Maxwell of Regent, N. D.
Mr. Schnebly was a Civil War veteran, a Private in Co. D, 132nd Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, enlisting in 1864 and served until the close of the war when he was mustered out in October 1864.
He united with the Presbyterian Church while in Illinois and after coming to Stilson he united with the U. B. [United Brethren] Church, later joining the M. E. [Methodist Episcopal] Church while in Missouri. He was a member of the M. B. A. for thirty-three years.
