Sarah, thank you again for your research. What you said about the death certificate is interesting. Last week I sent a request to the Hamilton County Registrar with my $5 per their phone instructions. They returned it to me today (Saturday) along with the $5 with no explanation. I will call them on Monday to see what the explanation is.
Two of their sons, Gustav and John, moved to Chicago as adults to Chicago and were streetcar conductors. I cannot see where they initially hooked up with any Chaplinski's. I do know that two of Pauline's (Simon's wife) relatives lived with them in Iowa per the Iowa 1885 census -- Anastasia and Anna Janowski (mother and daughter). Janowski was Pauline's maiden name. Baptism records for two of John's children show a Catherine Chaplinski as a sponsor for one of them but I can't find any additional info on her. I do know from other records that the family name in Poland was Czaplinski but the females may have carried the name Czaplinska. I did find Simon's naturalization papers but they only indicated that he emigrated from West Prussia (Poland). Per your recommendation I will initiate a contact with St. Mary's in Williams. Thanks again fir your interest and work.
