It looks like his sister died in May. The obituary from the Daily Freeman Journal in Webster City:
Florence G. Doss, 80, of Williams, died on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Friday May 24, 2013 at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls with burial in the Williams Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before services. Florence G. Doss was born on June 6, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois. She attended school in Harvard, IL. On September 19, 1953, Florence was united in marriage to Everette Doss in Vincent, IA. She worked at Electro Lux in Webster City for 25 years. She was a member of the UAW. Florence worked hard on the farm and had three gardens. She canned everything and even made her own ketchup. The family favorite that she made was her homemade Strawberry Jelly. Florence is survived by her husband Everette of Williams; her children Mike Doss of Des Moines, Robert and Shari Vermett of Webster City and Sandy and Frank Cearley of Alden; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother James.
